Learning Hebrew during wartime presents unique challenges. Ulpan students worldwide are exposed to a diverse vocabulary to help them navigate the complex reality in Israel.

The employees of the Department for the Promotion of Aliyah at the World Zionist Organization sought to address these challenges in a global online meeting with numerous Hebrew teachers from Europe, North and South America. The meeting featured the Chairman of the World Zionist Organization, Mr. Jacob Hagoel, and the Head of the Department, Ms. Marina Rosenberg-Koritny.

The Department Head conveyed a crucial message to the teachers: «We have no other nation, no other homeland.» In every generation, new threats arise, but we will not waver in our mission. We will continue to promote Aliyah and serve as a bridge between Israel and the Jewish communities worldwide because Am Israel Chai, and we will not back down or surrender. Mr. Jacob Hagoel echoed this sentiment, offering encouragement to the teachers as Israel faces its current crisis.

Fabio Redak, the consultant of the Teacher Training Department, provided comprehensive guidance on adapting the study program to the wartime period, fostering a positive atmosphere to strengthen the connection between students and the State of Israel. Even in these trying times, it remains crucial to bring Diaspora Jews closer to Israel, teach them Hebrew, and help them understand the intricate realities in the country.

Towards the end of the meeting, teachers were given the opportunity to share their thoughts and recommendations for the continued operation of the Ulpan system. They acknowledged the deep longing of students and Jewish communities to maintain their connection with Israel. This includes seeking encouragement, support, and the opportunity to learn Hebrew, which enhances their understanding of the current situation in the country.

The meeting was not without its challenges, but it proved to be a vital one. The teachers from the department serve as critical conduits for disseminating information about Israel to Jewish communities worldwide. The tools and words of encouragement they received will assist them in their essential role.

Comment enseigner l’hébreu en temps de guerre ?

Quel vocabulaire spécifique apprendre aux élèves de nos oulpanim à travers le monde ?

Comment faire toucher du doigt la réalité israélienne complexe aux juifs de la Diaspora ?

C’est à toutes ces questions et bien d’autres encore que l’équipe du département de promotion de l’Alyah de l’organisation sioniste mondiale a essayé de répondre.

A cette rencontre zoom international ont pris part le président de l’OSM, Yaacov Hagoel, la cheffe du de notre département, Marina Rosenberg-Koritny ainsi que plusieurs dizaines de nos professeurs d’hébreu à travers le monde tant en Europe qu’en Amérique du nord et du sud.

Notre cheffe de département a transmis un message très clair : «nous n’avons pas d’autre terre ni d’autre pays que l’état d’Israël, chaque génération se lève un nouveau tyran qui veut détruire le peuple juif et c’est malheureusement le cas aujourd’hui encore mais nous ne cèderons pas et nous continuerons à travailler pour encourager lAlyah et s renforcer les liens entre Israël et le peuple juif, Am Israël Hai!»

Yaacov Hagoel a soutenu cette position et a transmis lui aussi un message très encourageant aux professeurs afin qu’ils continuent leurs activités malgré la guerre qui touche l’état d’Israël.

Fabio Radak, le conseiller du département pour la formation continue du corps enseignant a transmis une série de recommandations afin d’adapter nos programmes d’études à la réalité sécuritaire israélienne dans un esprit positif pour rassurer nos élèves et renforcer le lien qui nous unis.

Enfin, ce fut le tour des dizaines de participants à travers le monde de prendre la parole pour partager leurs impressions et donner aussi leurs recommandations pour que nos oulpanim fonctionnent au mieux durant cette période.

Ils nous ont fait part du désir profond de leurs élèves et des communautés juives de renforcer leurs liens avec l’état d’Israël et a participer plus encore à des activités de promotion de l’Alya et à des cours d’hébreu pour que nous soyons encore plus en phase.

Cette rencontre fut un moment dur, riche en émotion mais nécessaire pour nos eux car ils sont aussi sur le front de la Défense d’Israël et doivent par la même transmettre beaucoup d’information sur ce qui se passe dans ce pays aux communautés a travers le monde.

Les outils qu’ils ont reçus ainsi que le soutien de nos équipes dans à l’étranger qu’en Israël les aiderons très certainement dans cette délicate mission.

¿Cómo se aprende hebreo en tiempos de guerra? ¿Qué vocabulario exponemos a los alumnos de todo el mundo? ¿Cómo explicarles a los judíos de la diáspora la compleja y difícil realidad de Israel?

A estas y muchas otras preguntas intentaron responder los empleados del departamento de promoción de Aliá en la Organización Sionista Mundial en una reunión global en línea con decenas de profesores de hebreo de todo el mundo que imparten nuestras clases de estudio en Europa, América del Norte y del Sur con la participación del presidente de la Organización Sionista Mundial, Sr. Jacob Hagoel y la jefa del departamento, Sra. Marina Rosenberg-Koritny.

La jefa del departamento pidió transmitir el siguiente mensaje a los docentes: No tenemos otra patria, no tenemos otro país. En cada generación hay un pueblo Amalec que  llega a exterminarnos, como lamentablemente acabamos de experimentar. Sin embargo, no dejaremos de trabajar, nunca dejaremos de hacer idud aliá, nunca dejaremos de ser un puente entre Israel y el mundo judío fuera de ella, porque el pueblo de Israel está vivo y no retrocederá ni se rendirá. El Sr. Jacob Hagoel apoyó esta declaración de valores y transmitió un mensaje muy positivo a los docentes para la continuación de nuestras actividades en la Diáspora durante la severa crisis que atraviesa el Estado de Israel.

Fabio Radak, consultor del departamento para capacitaciones de los docentes, brindó orientación integral sobre cómo adaptar el plan de estudio al período de guerra en una atmósfera positiva para fortalecer la conexión entre los alumnos y el Estado de Israel. Incluso en estos tiempos difíciles es importante acercar a los judíos de la diáspora a Israel, enseñarles hebreo y mediar en la complicada realidad de Israel.

Al final, dimos derecho a hablar a las decenas de profesores que respondieron a nuestra invitación y compartieron con nosotros sus sensaciones y recomendaciones para el funcionamiento continuo de nuestro sistema de estudio. Reconocen un gran anhelo de los estudiantes en particular y de las comunidades judías en general por mantener la conexión con Israel, por encuentros de aliento y fortalecimiento así como por el aprendizaje del hebreo, que les permita comprender de mejor manera lo que está sucediendo en el país.

No fue una reunión fácil, pero sí muy esencial, ya que los profesores del departamento están a la vanguardia de la información israelí y hacen que la información sobre lo que sucede en Israel sea accesible a las comunidades judías de todo el mundo. Las herramientas que recibieron, junto con las palabras de aliento, les ayudarán en esta difícil tarea.

כיצד לומדים עברית בימי מלחמה? איזה אוצר מילים חושפים בפני תלמידי האולפנים ברחבי העולם? כיצד מתווכחים ליהודי התפוצות את המציאות המורכבת והקשה בארץ?

על שאלות אלו ורבות אחרות ניסו לענות עובדי המחלקה לעידוד עליה בהסתדרות הציונית העולמית. במפגש מקוון כלל-עולמי נטלו חלק יו»ר ההסתדרות הציונית העולמית מר יעקב חגואל, ראשת המחלקה הגב’ מרינה רוזנברג-קוריטני, עשרות רבות של מורים לעברית מכל רחבי העולם המפעילים את כיתות האולפן שלנו באירופה, צפון ודרום אמריקה.

ראשת המחלקה ביקשה להעביר למורים את המסר הבא: אין לנו ארץ אחרת, אין לנו מדינה אחרת. בכל דור ודור מגיע עמלק הבא לכלותנו וגם כיום זה המצב, לדאבוננו. עם זאת, אנו לא נפסיק לעבוד, לא נפסיק לעודד עליה לעולם, לא נפסיק להוות גשר בין ישראל לעולם היהודי שמחוצה לה, שכן עם ישראל חי והוא לא ייסוג ולא ייכנע. מר יעקב חגואל תמך באמירה ערכית זו והעביר מסר מאוד חיובי למורים להמשך הפעילות שלנו בתפוצות בעת המשבר הקשה שמדינת ישראל עוברת.

פביו רדק, יועץ המחלקה להכשרות מורים נתן הדרכה מקיפה להתאמת מערך השיעורים לתקופת המלחמה באווירה חיובית כדי לחזק את הקשר בין התלמידים למדינת ישראל. גם בזמנים קשים אלו חשוב לקרב את יהודי התפוצות לישראל, ללמדם עברית ולתווך להם את המציאות המסובכת בישראל.

לסיום ניתן זכות הדיבור לעשרות המורים שנענו להזמנה שלנו והם חילקו איתנו את התחושות ואת המלצות שלהם להמשך הפעלת מערך האולפנים שלנו. הם מזהים כמיהה רבה של תלמידי האולפנים בפרט ושל הקהילות היהודיות בכלל לשמירת הקשר עם ישראל, למפגשי עידוד וחיזוק וכן ללימוד עברית, מה שמאפשר להם להבין בצורה טובה יותר את המתרחש בארץ.

זו הייתה פגישה לא פשוטה, אבל פגישה חיונית מאוד, שכן מורי המחלקה עומדים בפרונט של ההסברה הישראלית ומנגישים את המידע אודות המתרחש בארץ לקהילות היהודיות ברחבי העולם. הכלים שהם קיבלו, יחד עם מילות חיזוק, יסייעו להם בעבודה לא קלה זו.
