Israeli mathematician became the laureate of the Turing Award

Professor Avi Wigderson, aged 67, has received the Turing Award, known as the “Nobel Prize in Computer Science”. He graduated from the Technion’s computer science department and works as a researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University. Wigderson has become the sixth Israeli to be honored with this prestigious award.

Born in Haifa, Wigderson earned his bachelor’s degree from the Technion’s computer science department, followed by a master’s and doctoral degree at Princeton. Over the years, he has published hundreds of articles and received numerous awards and scholarships, including the Alon Fellowship, Gödel, Knuth, Nevanlinna, and Abel Prizes. In 2023, the Technion awarded Wigderson an honorary doctorate for his significant contribution to the theory of computer science and discrete mathematics, as well as for his long-term connections with the university.
