Israeli startups set a record, raising $9.3 billion in half a year

Israel has once again confirmed its title as the “nation of startups.” In six months, local companies attracted $9.3 billion in investments.

This is the best result in the last three years. As reported by the website NEWSru.co.il citing the report of the organization Startup Nation Central, the volume of attracted funds increased by 54% compared to the previous semester.

The growth in the number of large deals is particularly noticeable: the number of financing rounds exceeding $50 million jumped from 20 to 32. A round is a stage of attracting investments when a startup receives funding from external investors to develop the project.

The highlight of the semester was the record round for Safe Superintelligence (SSI) — the startup of Ilya Sutskever, former chief scientific officer of OpenAI and one of the creators of ChatGPT. His company, operating in Israel and the USA, raised $2 billion — more than a fifth of all investments in Israeli startups for the period.

Nearly half of all investments went to companies developing corporate software. In second place is cybersecurity, and in third is financial technologies. This distribution reflects global trends: businesses are willing to pay for digitalization and data protection.

The mergers and acquisitions sector also set a record — $39.2 billion. However, $32 billion of this amount was accounted for by a single deal: Google’s purchase of the company Wiz.

The figures show that the Israeli startup ecosystem is recovering after a difficult period and is demonstrating new growth, attracting the attention of global investors.
