International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Terrorism: The UN forgot about the Israelis

August 21 is the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism. This year, the UN organized an exhibition in the lobby of its headquarters in New York, dedicated to the victims of terror from different countries around the world. However, astonishingly, not a single Israeli was among them.

This is no coincidence, considering the UN leadership’s attitude towards the events of October 7. UN Secretary-General António Guterres refused to blacklist the terrorist organization HAMAS for sexual violence, despite numerous testimonies. And his deputy for humanitarian affairs, Martin Griffiths, openly stated in an interview that he does not consider HAMAS a terrorist group, calling it a “political movement”.

This picture is further completed by the head of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, who, despite numerous pieces of evidence, stubbornly minimizes the extent of the agency’s cooperation with HAMAS. The UN exhibition became yet another alarming signal of how international organizations choose whose suffering to recognize and whose to ignore.
