Jewish anti-Zionism and October 7 — it’s important to know!
On October 7, 2023, Israel was subjected to a monstrous attack by its enemies, unprecedented in scale and brutality since the Holocaust. For the first time since the War of Independence in 1948, when the newly established Jewish state was literally fighting for its survival, its very existence was questioned. This tragedy once again divided Jewish history into BEFORE and AFTER. Everyone who values the historical, cultural, religious heritage of the Jewish people, who cares about their national and family roots, understood that without the absolute unity of Jews around the world and unconditional support for their national home, their state, Jews simply cannot survive.

The upcoming elections for delegates to the World Zionist Congress are a unique opportunity for every Jew to clearly and firmly express their position, to support the forces that uncompromisingly defend our main national value – solidarity with each other and with the Jewish state.
Unfortunately, in the entire Jewish world in general, and in the USA in particular, there are many forces and organizations for whom the tragedy of October 7 served as a stimulus not to support the Jewish state, but, on the contrary, to slander it and those who stand in solidarity with it and help it. These anti-Zionist Jewish organizations are unlikely to openly run for delegates to the World ZIONIST Congress, but undoubtedly, as has been the case before, they will nominate both their direct proxies and hidden allies, who under the indisputable slogans of respect for Jewish traditions on one hand and the values of liberalism on the other, assist those forces in Israel that seek to perpetuate inequality among the citizens of the Jewish state in the distribution of rights and obligations and to weaken the State of Israel as much as possible. Currently, the following anti-Zionist and anti-Israel Jewish organizations are particularly active in the USA:
Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP)
JVP, founded in 1996 by a group of students from the University of Berkeley, is one of the most well-known anti-Israel organizations. By 2024, its membership reached 23,000 activists, with branches in universities Columbia and George Washington. JVP actively supports the boycott of Israel and the “right of return” for Palestinian refugees, calling Zionism a form of colonialism. The organization conducts protests, lectures, and campaigns in universities, actively spreading its agenda among students. After the attack on October 7, 2023, JVP accused Israel of provoking violence, calling the events “a consequence of occupation and apartheid”. By the way, there are practically no Jews left there, but thanks to the name of this organization, what the Arabs and Muslims fail to achieve is accomplished.
Open Hillel
Open Hillel is a movement that emerged in 2013 in response to the policy of traditional Jewish student centers “Hillel” in US universities. It advocates for open dialogue and inclusivity, including cooperation with pro-Palestinian and anti-Zionist groups, facilitating the legitimization of anti-Israel sentiments in the academic environment.
Judaism On Our Own Terms (JOOOT)
Adopts a radically anti-Zionist position, asserting that renouncing Zionism is necessary for “authentic Jewish self-identification”. The organization primarily targets youth, promoting ideas of “anti-imperialism” and condemning Israeli policy.
IfNotNow, founded in 2014 by a group of young Jewish activists, uses the quote from Rabbi Hillel “If not now, when?” as its motto. The group focuses on criticizing the “Israeli occupation” of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, actively influencing American politicians and media. The organization conducts protests at Jewish organizations such as AIPAC, and organizes social media campaigns. After the events of October 2023, IfNotNow released a statement linking the actions of Palestinian terrorists to Israeli policy, stating that it “could not have been unprovoked”.
International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN)
IJAN, founded in 2008 by Sarah Kershnar, defines Zionism as a form of racism and condemns Israel as an apartheid state. The organization actively advocates for the return of Palestinian refugees and the complete cessation of the Israeli “occupation of historic Palestine”.
The American Council for Judaism (ACJ)
An organization that asserts Jews are exclusively a religious, not a national community. It belongs to the reformist wing of Jewish religion and has actively opposed the Zionist movement throughout its one and a half centuries of existence. During World War II, the organization protested against the creation of a Jewish brigade within the British army. It actively campaigned against the establishment of the State of Israel, insisting that US Jews have nothing to do with Israel, and denied Israel’s right to call itself the national home of the Jewish people. The organization positions itself as anti-nationalist, while insisting on the “revival of Palestine” as an Arab state.
Satmar Hasidim
The Satmar Hasidim represent one of the largest ultra-Orthodox Hasidic communities, numbering about 26,000 families in the USA. Historically, this community has taken an active anti-Israel and anti-Zionist stance, asserting that the creation of a Jewish state before the coming of the Messiah contradicts the Torah.
Malachim
The name of the organization in Hebrew means “Angels” or “Messengers”. Malachim is an offshoot of the Chabad Hasidic movement. Unlike other branches of Lubavitch Hasidim, they adhere to a sharp anti-Zionist and anti-Israel position.
Neturei Karta
In Aramaic, the name means “Guardians of the City”. This ultra-Orthodox organization categorically denies the right of the Jewish state to exist, asserting that it can only be created by the Messiah. It is known for its contacts with the governments of Iran, the leadership of the PLO, and anti-Israel organizations, as well as participation in international conferences against Israel.
The activities of these organizations pose serious challenges to Jewish unity in the USA. For example, protests organized by Jewish Voice for Peace often accompany accusations of Israel as an “apartheid state”, which exacerbates the divide between different Jewish groups. IfNotNow conducts social media campaigns and pickets at the buildings of Jewish organizations such as AIPAC, accusing them of supporting the “Israeli occupation”. These actions fuel internal conflicts within the Jewish community.
Organizations such as Neturei Karta and the Satmar Hasidim, with their contacts with anti-Israel forces, including Iran, directly support the most ardent and bloody enemies of Israel and the Jewish people. Open Hillel and JOOOT in universities facilitate the spread of ideas that question the connection between Jewish identity and the State of Israel.
Why is this happening?
There is a saying: everything new is well-forgotten old. The Holocaust was also thoroughly prepared for, demonizing Jews and instilling the idea that one specific people were to blame for all troubles. Now, with extensive financial backing, entrenched in universities where they have the opportunity to influence the minds of the youth, anti-Semitic anti-Zionists are trying to create an ideological and legal basis for weakening and subsequently destroying the State of Israel.
“Anti-Zionist and anti-Israel Jewish organizations in the USA represent a complex phenomenon that cannot be ignored,” says Marina Rosenberg Koritny, Head of the World Zionist Organization Department for the Promotion of Aliyah. “Their activation after the tragic events of October 7, 2023, underscores how important it is to strengthen Jewish unity and solidarity. Today, more than ever, we must work together to confront new challenges and threats. This is a fight not only for Israel but for the existence of the entire Jewish people.”
