March in support of Israel in New York

On May 18, 2025, the annual Israel Day on Fifth march took place on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. About 70,000 people — the Jewish community, supporters of Israel, freed hostages, IDF veterans with combat injuries, and a delegation from the Israel Disabled Organization — united to express solidarity with Israel and call for the release of 58 hostages held by HAMAS in Gaza.

The procession was held under the slogan “Hope”, with a symbol — a tree decorated with a yellow ribbon, in support of the hostages and their families. The New York Police provided the highest level of security: SWAT teams, canine units, drones, helicopters, and counter-terrorism groups maintained order. Participants were checked at the entrance due to recent anti-Israel protests and an increase in anti-Semitic incidents.

The march originated in 1965 as an action by Zionist youth. Since 2011, it has been organized by the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) with support from the UJA Federation. After the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, the parade was renamed from Celebrate Israel Parade to Israel Day on Fifth, to emphasize support for Israel in wartime and to remind of the hostages.

Mayor Eric Adams stated that despite calls to cancel the march due to the tense situation, the city will not back down. “We guarantee safety and the right of people to peacefully support Israel,” he said, promising to suppress any disturbances.
