Google co-founder Sergey Brin called the UN ‘an openly anti-Semitic organization’

Google co-founder Sergey Brin sharply criticized the United Nations, accusing it of antisemitism following the publication of a report that claims technology giants profit from “genocide committed by Israel in Gaza”.

Who is Sergey Brin

Sergey Brin is one of the founders of Google, an American entrepreneur and programmer of Russian origin. Born in 1973 in Moscow, he emigrated with his family to the USA at the age of 6, fleeing Soviet antisemitism. Together with Larry Page, he created the Google search engine in 1998. Although Brin left the day-to-day management of Google in 2019, he continues to work on artificial intelligence projects.

Reaction to the UN report

On Saturday, Brin posted a message on the internal forum of Google DeepMind, the company’s AI development division: “With all due respect: using the term ‘genocide’ in relation to Gaza is deeply offensive to many Jews who have experienced real genocide. I also advise caution when quoting such blatantly antisemitic organizations as the UN in such discussions”.

The UN report accuses Google and other technology companies of allegedly providing Israel with cloud computing and AI solutions as part of the 2021 “Project Nimbus” contract after the Hamas attack on October 7.

About the report’s author

The controversial report was authored by Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation in the Palestinian territories. Albanese has been repeatedly accused of antisemitism: in particular, representatives of the governments of the USA, France, and Germany have accused her of this. In April 2025, she was involved in another scandal when it was revealed that her trip to Australia and New Zealand in 2023 was partially funded by pro-Hamas lobbying organizations. However, the UN leadership ignores these facts, and Francesca Albanese effectively acts as Guterres’ team’s mouthpiece regarding Israel.

The USA officially called for Albanese to be removed from her position due to her anti-Israel and antisemitic rhetoric.

Corporate reaction

Brin’s comment sparked mixed reactions among Google employees. Some stated they were “surprised and upset,” while others supported his stance. It’s worth noting that Google previously fired several employees who protested against the contract with Israel in 2024.

Brin’s statement is seen as one of the loudest pronouncements by a major Jewish business leader against the growing anti-Israel pressure in international organizations.
