Oracle: unconditional solidarity with Israel
One of the world’s largest technology corporations set an example of corporate responsibility by supporting its Israeli employees and the entire nation of Israel during the most challenging times
Oracle Corporation – an American technology giant with a market capitalization of over $380 billion, ranks among the top ten largest IT companies in the world. Founded in 1977 by Larry Ellison, the company specializes in developing database management software, cloud solutions, and enterprise applications. Oracle employs more than 150,000 staff worldwide, and its products are used by 430,000 customers in 175 countries.
At the annual Oracle AI World conference in Las Vegas, the company’s senior management, led by Safra Catz, former CEO and current senior vice president of the board of directors, made a statement of unwavering support for Israel. This was not just a declaration – the company backed up its words with concrete actions that affected the lives of thousands of employees.
A Personal Message to Fellow Countrymen
During a meeting with the Israeli delegation at The Venetian hotel, Safra Catz addressed her fellow countrymen in Hebrew and English. Catz, born in Holon and emigrated to the USA at the age of six, did not hide her emotions: “I can’t stop crying, watching the hostages returning home”.
The Oracle leader emphasized that her position is shared by the company’s founder Larry Ellison, who has long admired the Israeli technology sector and the spirit of innovation.
Swift and Decisive Reaction
Already on October 8, 2023, the day after the HAMAS attack, Oracle posted a message “Oracle supports Israel” in local languages on all its international websites. This decision was made consciously, despite the risks.
Ya’el Har-Even, head of Oracle’s Israeli division, directly told journalists: “We understood that we might lose clients. But it didn’t matter to us. Supporting Israel is part of our company’s DNA”.
Concrete Assistance to Employees
Words were supported by large-scale actions:
Financial support:
- All employees in Israel received double salaries in the first months of the war
- Mobilized reservists continued to receive their full salary
- The company donated $1 million to the Magen David Adom organization
- A global fundraising campaign was launched among 150,000 employees worldwide, with Oracle pledging to double every donation
Investing in the Future
Oracle not only supports Israel morally – the company continues to actively invest in the country. Already in 2021, Oracle built an underground data center in Jerusalem nine stories deep, costing about 1.2 billion shekels. Now, the opening of a second similar center is planned.
During the conference, Catz and Ellison specifically highlighted the Israeli startup IMAGINE AI, which developed a system for ultra-fast diagnosis of cancer diseases. “It’s like a miracle – and only in Israel do such miracles happen,” said Catz.
An Example of Corporate Ethics
“I’ve worked in many places, but I’ve never seen anything like this,” admitted Ya’el Har-Even. “Oracle is not just an employer; it’s a family that supports you in the hardest times”.
Safra Catz summed up the company’s philosophy with words that have become the motto of their approach: “Sometimes you have to choose not between profit and loss, but between values. We chose Israel”.
The Department for Aliyah Promotion of WZO is proud that global companies like Oracle not only declare support for Israel but also genuinely help people, setting an example of corporate solidarity for the whole world.
