Google buys Israeli startup Wiz for $32 billion – a triumph for the ‘startup nation’!

Recently, Alphabet, the parent company of Google, announced the acquisition of the Israeli cybersecurity startup Wiz for a record $32 billion. This deal became the largest acquisition in Alphabet’s history, highlighting Israel’s significance as a “startup nation”.

Founded in 2020 by veterans of the Israeli army, Wiz specializes in scanning cloud storage to identify security threats. The company quickly gained the trust of major clients such as Barclays and Mars, thanks to its innovative solutions in cloud security.

Interestingly, last year Wiz rejected Alphabet’s offer to buy the company for $23 billion, preferring to focus on further growth. However, the current agreement for $32 billion underscores Google’s ambition to strengthen its position in the cloud services market, competing with giants like Microsoft and Amazon.

Israel rightfully bears the title of “startup nation”. Despite its small size and young economy, the country shows impressive results in the field of innovation. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, from 2011 to 2022, 8,859 startups were created in Israel, 51% of which continued their activity in 2022.

The phenomenon of the Israeli startup ecosystem is explained by several factors: mandatory military service, which fosters leadership qualities and technical skills; a culture of immigration that encourages entrepreneurial spirit; and government support and investment in research and development.

Google’s acquisition of Wiz not only confirms Israel’s status as an innovation hub but also demonstrates global recognition of Israeli technologies. This deal highlights the country’s importance on the global technological stage and its contribution to the development of the global economy.
