Psychometry to repatriation: how the ‘Megamat Aliyah’ project helps young Jews choose Israel

In Paris and Marseille, a psychometric exam for admission to Israeli universities was recently held. Over the past year, the number of young Jews in France who registered for the exam has doubled, reaching more than 200 people. This is not just statistics — it’s a response to the wave of anti-Semitism that swept the country after the tragedy of October 7, 2023.

Psychometric exams are part of the “Megamat Aliyah” (מגמת עלייה) project, turning the dream of living in Israel into a tangible action plan. The project was initiated by Marina Rosenberg Koritny, who heads the Department for the Promotion of Aliyah of the World Zionist Organization.

“Megamat Aliyah” can be translated as “Orientation – aliyah”, highlighting its goal: preparation for repatriation through education.

The essence of the project is simple and effective: to give young Jews the opportunity to prepare for admission to Israeli universities even before moving to the country. Participants take courses, pass the psychometric test in their native language, and improve their Hebrew. This removes a key barrier that stopped many at the threshold of a new life — lack of language preparation and uncertainty about their academic prospects.

In 2023, the “Megamat Aliyah” project crossed the ocean, and France became its vanguard on the European continent.

Today, as thousands of Jews around the world are rethinking their identity and security issues, “Megamat Aliyah” has become more than just an educational initiative. It is now a real path that helps young people not just come to Israel, but become part of its society — with an understanding of the language, culture, and a clear perspective on education and career.

“Our project provides young Jews — future repatriates — with the most important thing: a chance for a real future in Israel. We give them confidence, knowledge, and support. And most importantly — the feeling that they are awaited,” emphasizes Marina Rosenberg Koritny.

“Megamat Aliyah” is a living bridge between the diaspora and Israel, which strengthens with each exam, each repatriation, each conscious choice in favor of a new life.
