Israeli startup created a unique device for the restoration of intervertebral discs

The Israeli company Discure Technologies has created an innovative bioelectronic device that treats and restores intervertebral discs without the need for complex surgical operations. As reported by the website newsru.co.il, the startup has already attracted $16 million in the first round of funding and has moved on to clinical trials.

Degeneration of intervertebral discs is a destructive process that occurs with age and leads to severe back pain and sciatica due to the compression of nerve endings by damaged discs.

This condition accounts for 35% of all cases of lower back pain, and in the US alone, it results in economic losses of about $100 billion annually. Existing treatment methods are mainly aimed at temporary pain relief — through painkillers, injections, or spinal surgery in extreme cases.

Discure Technologies offers a new approach. Their bioelectronic implant not only relieves pain but also promotes the regeneration of intervertebral discs, improving the supply of fluid and nutrients to the tissues. The implant is installed without complex surgical procedures, making it a more accessible and effective treatment method compared to other options, such as gene therapy.

As noted by the company’s CEO, Yuval Mandelbaum, this technology could change the approach to treating spinal diseases — moving from symptom relief to actual regeneration and restoration of damaged disc tissues.
