Three Israeli universities are in the top 100 best universities in the world

On August 15, the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), widely known as the Shanghai Ranking, was published. It is compiled by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy and has been published annually since 2003. The ranking evaluates universities’ contributions to scientific and educational achievements, considering indicators such as the number of alumni who are Nobel Prize and Fields Medal laureates, the number of highly cited researchers, the volume and quality of publications in leading scientific journals, and other important criteria.

The Shanghai Ranking is recognized as one of the three most authoritative in the world, alongside Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Times Higher Education (THE). Each year, ARWU assesses more than 2000 universities, of which the top 1000 are included in the ranking.

The highest position among Israeli institutions was taken by the Weizmann Institute of Science — 69th place. In particular, the Weizmann Institute achieved its highest positions in chemistry (44th place) and biology (45th place).

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem ranked 81st, showing its best results in areas such as communication (15th place), mathematics (22nd place), dentistry (44th place), and law (50th place).

The Technion — Israel Institute of Technology ranked 85th in the ranking. The Technion’s highest results in specific fields were aerospace engineering (25th place) and electrical engineering and electronics (33rd place).

The top 3 leading universities in the world according to the 2024 Shanghai Ranking remain unchanged: Harvard University, Stanford University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
