Israel is in 5th place in the world in terms of the proportion of citizens with higher education

The international educational portal Erudera has presented a ranking of the most educated countries. The ranking is based on a report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The top 10 countries in the world with the most educated population, considering the percentage of citizens with higher education, are as follows:

  1. Canada – 59.96%
  2. Japan– 52.68%
  3. Luxembourg – 51.31%
  4. South Korea — 50.71%
  5. Israel – 50.12%
  6. USA – 50.06%
  7. Ireland – 49.94%
  8. United Kingdom – 49.39%
  9. Australia – 49.34%
  10. Finland – 47.87%.

Israel is in fifth place – 50.12% of Israelis have higher education. Moreover, among the educated young Israelis (25–34 years old), women constitute the majority — 62.6%.

Experts have identified some common characteristics of countries with a high level of education: a stable, prosperous economy, high GDP per capita, significant investments in education, and good happiness index scores.

It has been established that the education parameter among a country’s population improves the quality of life for those who have a bachelor’s degree and higher. Data show that the more educated a country’s population, the more economically developed the country is.

The OECD report also states that more educated people find it easier to master new technologies. Thus, during the coronavirus pandemic, 71% of people with higher education aged 55–74 quickly learned modern online communications: video calls, conferences, and chats and learned to use them in professional activities.
